The Board of the NHSA decided with great enthusiasm that the Spring 2012 Convention will be held in Toronto CANADA. As the capital of Ontario, Canada’s largest city, and home to a Greek Community with a population of over 100,000, the city of Toronto promises to be an outstanding locale for the upcoming convention. The convention will take place over the weekend of April 27-29.

The theme of the convention, as decided by the local organizing committee, is “Hellenic Youth: The Cornerstone of Hope” . The purpose of the convention is to bring together Hellenic student representatives from universities across North America along with esteemed members of the Hellenic community with the goal of empowering students to make a positive impact on their lives and their communities. In addition, students will make lifelong friendships and connections through their shared experience over the course of the weekend.

What types of events will be held during the Convention?

There will be interactive panel lecture series and mentorship events with established professionals, politicians, educators, and entrepreneurs. Students will be granted the opportunity to network with professionals and peers for internships, summer jobs, and even career opportunities. In addition, evening social events will be held that will allow students to experience the best of Toronto’s Greek Town and become more acquainted with their peers from across North America. Finally, internal meetings held on the final day will allow student members to discuss the initiatives of the NHSA as well other matters involving the internal workings of the organization.

Furthermore, on Friday April 27th there will be a Giannis Ploutarxos concert at Hazelton Manor. Any student attending the NHSA Convention is eligible for a half price ticket! We will be providing transportation to and from the concert for those of you that wish to attend!

National Hellenic Student Association
Convention Spring 2011
April 8th- 10th, 2011
Chicago, Illinois

Hosted by the Hellenic Student Associations in Chicago of
Loyola University, University of Illinois at Chicago- UIC, Northwestern University, and DePaul University.

On April 8-10, 2011 the National Hellenic Student Association (NHSA) of America held its 5th semiannual convention in Chicago. A young organization founded only 2 years ago and entirely student driven, the NHSA proudly had an unprecedented attendance of over 100 students representing 30 universities across the United States and Canada. Furthermore, at the convention’s mentorship fair and lecture series, NHSA connected attending members with over 50 professionals and academicians in addition to many distinguished speakers. Our honored speakers included Alexi Giannoulias, Theodore Spyropoulos, Endy Zemenidis, Dimitris Logothetis, and Constantine Zografopoulos.

The success of the Chicago convention was a testament to all that the NHSA has accomplished since its re-establishment in 2009. The organization has grown exponentially in terms of membership starting off at just 9 founding universities in April of 2009 and expanding to over 40 to this day. These facts are evidence that the organization is accomplishing its overarching goal of becoming the Unified Voice of Hellenic Students and the Carrier of Hellenism and Paideia (Education) across North America. The NHSA and all of its members will continue to work towards this goal by sharing and allocating their resources to promote a support network of Hellenism in academic and local communities.
