President: ALEXANDER THOMOPULOS
Alexander was born and raised in Athens, Greece. In 2009 he moved to Maryland, where he completed the final two years of high school. In 2015 he graduated from the University of Maryland – College Park with a B.S. in Physiology and Neurobiology in order to pursue Medical School. Over the summers in Greece he has spent time shadowing physicians, volunteering, and traveling, while pursuing his passions of sailing and windsurfing. Despite leaving Greece over 7 years ago, he has grown increasingly interested in, inspired by, and dedicated to Hellenism. During his undergraduate program he took several high level Greek classes, and obtained a minor in Modern Greek Studies. He believes in the importance of a strong education and culture and wishes to promote Hellenism through those, using NHSA as the medium.
Vice PRESIDENT: KONSTANTINA PANAGIOTOPOULOU
Born and raised in Chicago, Konstantina lives downtown where she enjoys reading, writing and drinking much coffee. Her family is originally from Athens and Arkadia, with further roots in Argos. She has recently graduated from DePaul University with degrees in Spanish and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Konstantina also completed an intensive Spanish program in Madrid, Spain through Enforex. At DePaul, she was President of the Hellenic Student Association for 3 years before becoming president of NHSA. During her time with NHSA she has organized 3 conventions, helped restructure the executive board and constitution, as well as re-imagined NHSA’s aesthetics and initiatives. Konstantina is currently an editorial intern at Rose Metal Press. She is pursuing a career in publishing and hopes to continue to promote Hellenism.
Director of Operations: Jason Mantzouranis
Jason grew up in Athens, Greece, and then moved to Chicago in 2011 to attend Northwestern University, from where he graduated with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and Economics. During his time at Northwestern Jason was involved in multiple organizations, including club tennis and Northwestern's Hellenic Student Association, of which he was co-President. Jason now works as an FPGA engineer in the proprietary trading industry in Chicago. His longer term goals are to obtain an M.S. and/or MBA degree after first spending some time in industry. Jason loves to play tennis, to ski and to travel.
Treasurer: Vasilis Psomas
Director of Public Relations & Recruitment: TAmika Tompoulidis
Tamika was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, located north of Cincinnati. Her family is originally from Edessa, Greece. Tamika graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. and M.A. in Communication. Currently, she lives in Lexington, Kentucky where she is a Lecturer in Communication Studies at UK, teaching public speaking and business communication. She enjoys teaching college students and making her classes fun. As part of NHSA she is excited to be involved in marketing and student recruitment, to strengthen the bond among HSA’s, and to spread the Hellenic spirit. Tamika loves meeting new people, going to UK basketball and football games, traveling to new cities, and Greek dancing every chance she gets!
DIRECTOR OF Special Projects & Initiatives: Eirine Haralambopoulos
Eirene is a senior at Loyola University Chicago, studying Advertising & Public Relations with minors in Management and Marketing. She is also working on an M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications as part of a 5-year Program at Loyola. Although she is from Chicago, she considers Greece her second home and is very involved in the Chicago Greek Community. She served on executive board at Loyola’s Hellenic Student Association as Cultural Director and Advertising Chair. Her love of Greek dance and culture has led her to be the Greek Dance Instructor for Saturday Greek School classes at the National Hellenic Museum in Greek Town. She studied abroad in Rome for a semester, and has traveled all over Italy and Greece. Although she is of Messinian descent, her favorite place in Greece and the whole world is Chania, Crete. She became a part of NHSA when she helped with the Chicago Convention, and loved the resources and opportunities NHSA had to offer the Hellenic youth of America. She hopes to explore these opportunities with future initiatives and projects through her role on the executive board.
Director of Marketing: Christina Voulgarelli-Christidou
Christina Voulgarelli-Christidou is the Director of Marketing for a Creative Publishing Team at the New School in affiliation with Parsons, NYC. With a passion for marketing, writing, editing, public speaking and public relations she has vast experience in the corporate, NGO and most recently the start-up sector. Ms. Voulgarelli has worked in the technical department of IBM company’s Mediaocean (NYC), has interned as a business consultant in JDA (Brooklyn) and has been a panelist and writer for the Global Studies Association and the Southern Economic Association. Furthermore, she is a contributor to The Odyssey online magazine and has written reviews for Onlytheatre.gr (Athens) in affiliation with the Greek Astoria Cultural Center and United Solo productions. She holds an Economics MA from the New School for Social Research with her main research focus in industrial shipping.
Finance Director: Ioannis Chatzidimitriou
Ioannis grew up in Thessaloniki, Greece, and then moved to the US in 2013 to attend St. Lawrence University. He is currently a senior Bsc. Student of Mathematics and Economics. He has worked on projects in central banking, debt dynamics and business development. Ioannis is originally from Kastoria and Giannitsa, Greece. He enjoys playing chess, soccer, travelling and volunteering.
Logistics Director: Elpida Velmahos
Elpida is a recent graduate of Boston University having studied Human Physiology, Spanish, and Public Health. For the time being she lives in Boston but has also lived in Los Angeles, Greece, Madrid, and Johannesburg, South Africa. Currently, she is working with a research team at Brown’s School of Medicine on America’s opioid epidemic with the goal of creating a county-wide analysis, connecting prescribed opioids, social determinants, and opioid-related mortality. She became part of NHSA after attending her first convention in Baltimore 2016, followed by her involvement in the Fall 2016 Boston Convention. At Boston University, she was President of the BU Hellenic Association for three years where beyond planning events for her university, she also worked with other Hellenic associations from institutions in the area. She is a self-described raging extrovert and hopes to use her skills to connect, educate, and unite the Hellenic community through NHSA.
IT DIRECTOR: Petros Besieris
Petros is a junior attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science. His academic accomplishments include being placed on the College of Engineering and Computer Science Dean’s list since freshman year. Mr. Besieris has also received the National Engaged Leader Award, recognizing high academic accomplishments along with leadership traits that have helped him thrive throughout his college career. He is very active within the Greek community of the Detroit area and is also a member of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor Hellenic Student Association. Greek dancing is a passion for Petros as he has been a member of the Metro-Detroit dance group, Zoé, since the age of 10. Mr. Besieris has professional experience working in the IT department of a Fortune 500 corporation. His ambition as IT Director for NHSA is to combine both his professional and cultural background to the organization in continuing to promote a strong Greek community on a national level.
Chairman: KONSTANTINE OURANITSAS
Konstantine Ouranitsas is the current Chairman and Advisory Council Chairman for the National Hellenic Student Association (NHSA) of North America as well as the association's Past President. Since the beginning of Mr. Ouranitsas’ involvement with NHSA, he was heavily involved in the planning process of many Conventions and was directly responsible for turning NHSA into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Mr. Ouranitsas has been very involved in the Philadelphia Greek community. He is on the board of the Philadelphia Federation, Vice President of AHEPA Chapter #26, Co-Founder & Past President of the Hellenic Student Association of Philadelphia, and alumni advisor and past President of the Drexel HSA. Konstantine is originally from New York City and of Pontian descent. Mr. Ouranitsas has professional experience in corporate accounting and finance as well as private debt. He graduated from Drexel University with a BSBA after completing a 5-year co-op program in Finance.
Canada, Montreal & Ottawa: Antonia Macris
I am currently in my last year of undergraduate studies, completing a double major in Geography and Communication Studies at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. During my time at Concordia, I've held positions of VP Communications with the Hellenic Student Association; Public Relations and Charity for the Zeta Tau Omega Sorority; VP Cultural Studies on the Communications Student Association, and have been appointed Member at Large on the Arts and Science Federation of Association's External Communications committee. Outside of University I am also a very active member of the Greek Community in Montreal at large. I am a sister with the Montreal Chapter of Maids of Athena under AHEPA; as well as a dancer with the greek traditional dance group: La Troupe Folklorique Grecque Syrtaki. I am excited to take on this new position under the NHSA and continue to promote engagement and awareness of the hellenic youth to the opportunities provided by the NHSA on a national level.
Great Lakes: Fotis Tompoulidis
Fotis Tompoulidis is a senior Business and Organizational Communication major at the University of Kentucky. He was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, located north of Cincinnati, and his family is originally from Edessa, Greece. Other than his involvement with NHSA, he is involved with the Dayton, Ohio AHEPA chapter, UK's Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honors Society Chapter, a Philanthropy Officer at the UK's Office of Philanthropy, a Radio DJ and Talk Show Host at WRFL, and a former Peer Mentor at UK's CI Connect Living Learning Program. Fotis's future goals are to pursue a career in marketing management in either media or consumer marketing. In his off time, Fotis enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Fotis is excited to work with NHSA in helping start new chapters and promoting Hellenism.
Mideast: CHRISTOS KATSIFIS
Chris Katsifis is a Junior in the Sport Management program at Drexel University. He is an active student at Drexel University where he is the Vice President of the Drexel Hellenic Society, a member of the Drexel Sport Management Student Union and works as a building manager at the Drexel Recreational Center. Chris’ future goals include working in collegian sports law or as a sport agent representing players at the highest level. Chris is excited to work with NHSA and help build it into an even better organization for Hellenic students all across the country.
